David Farland has helped dozens of writers who have gone on to become bestsellers. As a young Star Wars author at Scholastic, for example, he was asked to help discover an author to push big, so he recommended J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and helped design the advertising campaign that led it to become the bestselling novel of all time. Has gone on to mentor dozens of others who have gone on to staggering literary success, including such #1 New York Times Best Sellers as Stephenie Meyer (Twilight), Brandon Mull (Fablehaven), Brandon Sanderson (Wheel of Time), and James Dashner (The Maze Runner).
Farland is an award-winning, international best-selling author in his own right with over 50 novel-length works in print. He has won the Philip K. Dick Memorial Special Award for his science fiction novel On My Way to Paradise, the Whitney Award for “Best Novel of the Year” for his historical novel In the Company of Angels, and he has won the International Book Award’s Best Young Adult Novel of the Year for his fantasy thriller Nightingale. He is best known, however, for his New York Times best-selling fantasy series The Runelords.
Farland has written for major franchises such as Star Wars and The Mummy.
In the video game industry, he has been both a designer and a scripter and was the co-leader on the design team for StarCraft: Brood War.
Farland judges L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future, the largest worldwide writing competition for new fantasy and science fiction authors, and he edits the annual anthology and teaches writing workshops in conjunction with the contest.
He has worked in Hollywood greenlighting movies and doctoring scripts. He set the Guinness World Record for the largest single-author, single-book signing. He has been hailed as “the wizard of storytelling” and his work has been called “compelling,” “engrossing,” “powerful,” “profound,” and “ultimately life-changing.”
Farland has a website which is an invaluable tool for aspiring writers all over the world, MyStoryDoctor.com. He teaches writing workshops which take him all over the world. Farland can be reached at DavidFarland.com or at the following social media platforms:
