Art Show Tours
by John Hertz
Try a walk through the Art Show with one of our perceptive, thoughtful, articulate tour leaders. Talking about art is itself an art. You might try that too; our tours, like most of what we do, are meant to be participatory.
Some of the tour leaders will be exhibiting artists. But that’s not the only perspective. Also not everyone who makes art can, or cares to, talk about it; their own or others’. We sometimes call these “docent tours”. The word “docent” is borrowed from the museum world, where it means a person good at pointing out things worth looking at.
I started leading tours myself a few years ago, when Kelly Freas told me “You seem to be able to say what you see.” Docents take one another’s tours. I always try to. I find them nourishing. Take as many as you like. The tours usually last about an hour.
Look for a schedule in the Art Show, online program and at the information desk (Sky Lobby).
(Please Note: Tours will be listed here and in the online schedule once available)
